先日、友人から電話が掛かってきました。 この友人、娘よりひとつ下にお子様がおられて、お受験を考え中。 狙いは私学ということだったので、少し前に“私学に強い”、我々がお世話になったお教室を紹介したのですが・・・。 本人（お子様）がお教室に行くのを嫌がるのだけど、どんなもん？ そんな経験ない？ うーーーん、コレは即答難しい質問でした。 娘に関しては、園での“遊び”は簡単過ぎてやや頼りなく感じていたようで、難度が高いお教室でのペーパーは（分かると達成感があって）それなりに楽しんでいたようなんですよね。 「行きたくない」 と言ったのは、本番間近でほぼ毎日お教室に通わなければならなくて、しかもその１回が長くて（３時間コース）、お友達とほとんど遊ぶことができなくなったとき、ぐらい？ なので、そのときでも嫌がるところを無理矢理連れて行った経験はないんです。 もちろん、終わって出て来ると疲れていて 「喉が渇いた」「おなかが空いた」 とダダをこねるので、帰り道のコンビニで飲み物やお菓子を買うことは多く… 入室前に 「今日も帰りにアレ、買ってくれる？」 と尋ねられ 「買ってあげるから、頑張ってきてね」 と言う運びになることはありましたけれど。 嫌がるお子様の様子をもう少し突っ込んで聞いてみると 「“はい、そこまで！”と出来てなくても時間を切られるのがイヤ」 とのことでした。 それはとっても子供らしい。 このお子様、とても聡明なお子様なので、本人のプライドとしても“もう少しで出来上がるのに諦めなければならない”のが許せないのでしょう。 分かります、分かります。 でもね。 お受験ではそれはダメなんですよね。 もちろんベストは “時間内に正確に沢山できること” しかし、練習問題のハードルは結構高いので、完璧に出来ることはほぼありえません。 と、なると “多少間違えてもいいから数をこなす” もしくは “少々雑でもいいからどんどん進める” ことに慣れるしかないんです。 考え込んだり、固まったり、お隣を覗いたりは絶対にダメ。そして、時間を切られたときに “チッ！！” って表情を出したり “もう、こんなんイヤ！！” って投げ出すような素振りをしたりはいけません。 「そこまで！」 で鉛筆を置き、お行儀よく座って“頑張りましたオーラ”を視線に乗せるのがベスト？ そして、ウマくいかなくても次に引きずらず、切り替えることも大事。 （コレ、大人も受けるリスニングテストに似てますね） 問題を解くコツや技術習得はもちろんですが、その前後を含めて（不利でない）振る舞いまで教えていただけるのが、お教室の魅力（価値）のひとつなのだと思います。 |
